3 Best-Investment Cookware Pieces

by Eli Schmidt

When you are on a budget, finding pieces of cookware that are not only inexpensive but will also last for years should be your primary criteria. Additionally, selecting pieces that serve multiple functions in your kitchen will save you money and space.

Pressure Cooker

Although certain electric pressure cookers are currently popular, they may not be as versatile as a traditional pressure cooker. Stainless steel pressure cookers are heavier and more expensive, while aluminum is generally lighter and more budget-friendly. Choose an aluminum pressure cooker in the six to eight quart range, which should work for most households. Your pressure cooker can be used to cook items quickly, such as beans and tough cuts of meat. If you do not lock the lid of your pressure cooker, the same cookware can be used like a soup or stock pot. You can make large batches of chili or soup, so there is no need for a separate piece of cookware.

Dutch Oven

When choosing a Dutch oven, find an enameled cast iron piece. Cast iron has the benefit of holding heat well once it comes up to temperature, and when it is enameled, it does not require seasoning and reduces sticking. Your Dutch oven can be used to sear meats or make other meals on the stove top. Since this cookware is oven-safe, you can transfer meats from the stove top to the oven to finish braising or make casseroles. Dutch ovens are good for moving from the oven to the table and serving meals family-style. Another advantage of an enameled Dutch oven is it can be used to fry foods, so there is no need for a dedicated fryer. All you need is a frying thermometer to regulate your oil temperature.

Baking Pan With Cooling Rack

Some baking pans are sold with the accompanying cooling rack, which makes finding the right size cooling rack easier. Depending on the exact size and depth of your baking pan, you can use the pan for many types of baked goods, such as cookies, sheet cakes, or brownies. Your baking pan will work well if you bake chicken, especially wings, and want crispy skin. You can place the pieces on the cooling rack, placed over the pan, so air can easily circulate and crisp the skin. The cooling racks can also serve their intended purpose and be used to help your baked goods or other foods cool. Additionally, if you are glazing a dessert, such as covering a baked good with ganache, you can do this on the cooling rack and allow the excess to drip onto the pan.

Saving money and space in the kitchen requires buying the right cookware that can serve many purposes. Knowing the right investment pieces will make cooking easier and more enjoyable. Keep these tips in mind as you check out discount kitchenware
